| The goal of the Shao-Lin Do Center is to spread the wealth of benefits that Kung Fu gives you. The dissemination of knowledge is key to the survival of this art, this takes the dedication of people that truly Love Kung Fu. Our school is lucky enough to have many of these people, we're always looking for more people like that and the only way to find out if that's you is to try it out. We're not here to make money, that should be evident in our monthly rates, the goal is to keep the doors open as often as possible and give people that truly enjoy it a place to come and train. Sifu' Max is an enthusiastic and friendly teacher and student, he is a Second Degree Black Belt in the Shao-Lin Do System. He trains hard and his goals include among many things, that every student leaves sweating at the end of every class. He has committed his life to this school and with the help of his friends, family and his Assistant Instructor Joe Pierce he runs every aspect of the school. A competent sparer (in the last tournament he took home the Tournament Champion Plaque), Sifu' Max spends the bulk of his personal time training between conditioning and Internal training, with plenty of Higher Level Rank Advancement Material mixed in. He believes that internal and external must be trained together to gain any true strength, and he loves the fighting applications of the internal styles he teaches. This is evident in Saturday's class where Tai Chi, Pa Kua and Chi Kung are taught not just from a health standpoint, but from a Martial standpoint. Assistant Instructor Joe Pierce is easily the best Point Sparer at the Shao-Lin Do Center. A tremendous Martial Artist, Joe has won tournaments with sparring, empty hand forms and weapon forms. Joe is a skilled and patient instructor, always finding new ways to teach the most complicated techniques. Joe spends his personal time training conditioning also along with a multitude of rank advancement and specialty forms. He trains internally from a very practical standpoint, and it comes through in his form and power. He also spends a lot of time working his sparring techniques and to Sifu' Max's everlasting frustration he always comes up with new combinations, techniques and attacks to constantly throw his opponent off. His strength is seen any time he hits a bag, not only in his power but his technique, he's been known to kick over the tall standing bag if he's not careful, it's also seen in the way he trains his jumping ability, before we moved schools his goal was to hit his head on the ceiling, when we moved we added 3 feet to that goal. Joey is currently in Gahna, Africa in the Peace Corp. He is doing well and communicates with Sifu' Max on at least a weekly basis. He is also currently teaching students Shao-Lin Do Kung Fu and Tai Chi, along with Self Defense. |
