Shao-Lin Kids
Ages 5 - 8

Offered Wednesdays from 6:00 - 6:30

This Shao-Lin Kids class is for children between the ages of 5 and 8 with some exceptions based on the individual student. This class is a simple and fun excercise program for children. The heart this Shao-Lin Kids class is still Shao-Lin Kung Fu, but it's a simplified version, for example where adults will learn 1-10 short form, each number being between 2 to 4 moves, these kids will learn 1-3 Short Form, broken up into 10 moves.

We usually work a lot of bag work, stressing the basics of correct form and a solid foundation of balance, strength and endurance. This class by far has the most in depth study of self defense. We study it thoroughly while keeping it simple. Their self defense is always based off of two people, the mean person and the good person. Sifu' Max plays the part  of the mean person (usually with all the necessary protective gear) and our Assistant Instructor Joe will be the good person, his role is much more simple.

The goal with all of the Dragon's self defense is always to get away from the mean person as quickly and efficiently as possible while getting themselves to the good person. This teaches the children to remove themselves from a negative situation easily while not causing undue harm to the opponent unless necessary, and then to get themselves to an appropriate adult. Their self defense is usually either a simple escape move when grabbed, a simple and effective counter that, if it involves a strike, is usually to the groin, eyes or solar plexus. These being the three easiest ways to stall an opponent long enough to escape. Due to the possible size and strength difference between a child and their possible attacker these areas will allow the scales to be tipped towards the child in any negative situation.

This class will help improve the childs listening abilities, attention span, attitude and over all physical fitness.
