Students in this class start with 24 Movement Tai Chi, the most common and most practiced form of Tai Chi on the planet. When done correctly this form takes between 7 and 9 minutes to complete. This class is worked very slowly, usually we will work on 24 Movement for about 6 months before ever considering moving on. There are Five Main Principles we work on for this initial form, Balance, Posture, Relaxation, Breathing and Flow. Once all of this principles can be practiced within the whole form with correct timing then we talk about moving on.
Tai Chi is considered a soft art, this is very true for 24 Movement Tai Chi, the movements are placed in their correct position, never forced, stretched, locked out or tensed into the position. Where ever you are at physically is where your Tai Chi is at. Unlike External Forms where you mold yourself to the form or stance, Tai Chi molds itself to you.
Tai Chi is an art for every person, it is a style not based on an idea or certain movements, or based on the movements of an animal, it is a style based on the correct movements of a Human Being, and is in this Instructors opinion the greatest martial art on the planet. The name can be translated as Grand Ultimate Fist, and I think that's very fitting. Its peacefully vicious.
All the movements in Tai Chi are meant to be performed with the entire body, it takes a connectedness that only comes with training. This is called Fa Jing, using the body like a whip, its about as powerful as an attack can be. For example, the power for a punch starts in the feet, raises through the legs, torques in the waist and then extends to the fists. This gives rise to another main tenant in Tai Chi; Root through the Feet, Power through the Legs, Control in the Waist, Manifest in the Hands.
This class is not to be missed for the serious marital artist, it's a great workout, mixing soft and hard throughout, while Tai Chi itself is soft, much of the martial training can be very strenous. This is what makes a well rounded martial artist, and a healthy martial artist.

Above is an example of Redirection Training, when the force of the two students trying to push over Sifu Max enter's his arms, Sifu Max redirects the energy down his spine and straight into the ground. When doing this correctly Sifu Max can stay relaxed and upright while they try their hardest to push him over.
